EMMY AWARDS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMATUSCALOOSA--The
Atlanta Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences
presented three Emmy Awards this June to The University of Alabama
Center for Public Television and Radio (CPT&R) for its documentary Productions from television stations in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina were eligible for the Emmy awards. Only three programs in the region were nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Programming, and two of these shows were CPT&R productions. "Tuskegee, Alabama: Living Black and White" was given the award for outstanding achievement in a documentary program. In it CPT&R producer Michael Letcher showed how the Civil Rights movement changed one Black Belt community--the one in which he grew up. Don Noble, Professor of English at the University of Alabama, and Brent Davis of CPT&R were presented with the Emmy for Outstanding Collaborative Achievement in Writing for their script for the documentary "I'm In the Truth Business: William Bradford Huie." In addition, Stephen Webber of New England Music Consultants in Boston received an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Composing for the musical score he wrote and recorded for "I'm In the Truth Business: William Bradford Huie." A third CPT&R program, "No Excuses," also received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Documentary. All of these programs originally aired on Alabama Public Television as part of The Alabama Experience, a weekly series about the state's history, people, and places. The series airs at 8 p.m., Thursday and is repeated at 1:30 p.m., Sunday.
