“Richard Johnston: Hill Country Troubadour,” a documentary production of the UA Center for Public Television and Radio, won First Place Documentary and Best of Show awards at the second annual Macon Georgia Film and Video Festival (MAGA) held February 27-March 4. Produced and directed by Max Shores, the documentary tells the story of a musician who traveled the world looking for inspiration and finally found it in a backwoods Mississippi juke joint.

Tabitha Walker, co-director of the festival said, "The film screened twice during the festival to enthusiastic audiences and we were all very excited to learn that our jurors had selected it for the Best of Show Award."

"We're sorry that Max couldn't be with us," she continued, "but we know he was having a great weekend in Florence, Alabama."

Shores attended the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival held the same weekend where he received Best Alabama Film and First Place Professional Documentary awards for the Richard Johnston film.

The Center for Public TV and Radio is a service division of the College of Communications and Information Sciences providing instruction and practical experience on high quality productions to students.
